Swivel Comes Loose

I use the Watkins all-steel ball hook swivel. Don't know how many of you noticed this in the video I posted, but I taped a piece of black electrical tape around the circumference of the swivel where it screws into the base. I did this because the swivel kept coming loose after hitting the bag for a while. I was hesitant to use any kind of wrench to tighten it, because I didn't know if I would damage anything by doing that. Anyone else have this problem with the Watkins swivel?

I had the same problem, Jack, when I used that swivel. Just get a large wrench and tighten it up. You won't damage it, although you'll need the wrench again if you ever need to get to the ball.

Yeah, I keep a pair of channel locks close by. My main problem is the hook flying loose.

Yeah 88, just make sure that the treads are in sync before "cranking" down with the wrench (I'm probably telling you something you already know), the machining (chrome plating) on those Watkins swivels sometimes makes lining up the treads a little tough. Once I tightened mine, I haven't had to touch it.

You can also make a small dent or hole in your hook link so that the set screw keeps it in there snug.

This happens to most of my Everlast metal swivels as well. I tighten with a pipe wrench and they don't come loose.
