    my speedbag responses verrrry slooow???

hey guys! i've been checkin this site out for a couple of weeks already...i learned a lot from here...but then... my speedbag still wont work good....

1st i bought a TKO speedbag( since sporting shops only have this one as their brand...) so i have no choice since i really want to have speed bag for a long time ago...so i bought it

when i arrived at home i immediately work on it's platform...(i was so noobie and naive at that time.) so i really have no idea..what board to use .... i just used an ordinary wood...which widths about 1" i think... then i only use Galvanized fitting like nipples tees and elbows to set it up on my wall....

so when i tried to box it... response was very sloow and the bag does not rebound like 3-4 times.. it just swings 2 times then it's down....

so i tried to research on the internet..luckily found this forum... and saw that people are very friendly here even very simple questions or hard to understand question...people are so eager to help others..

so then after reading couple of thread... i realize that vibration might be the cause why the speedbag does not response pretty well.

so i found a very solid thick wood at the garage... they call it here "Palo tsina"(im a filipino) though it's already very thick and solid...even you slap in on to the wall..the wood wont vibrate..but then id's stick 2 of that wood to make it one and 1/2 thick and height and length was 24" (it's a square platfom not a round one )

i also found 1/4 thick angle bar at the garage and i also bought a swivel instead using a u-bolt( i dont know what's the difference between two..i just want to make sure that at this last time..it will work)

    * so i attach the new swivel at the board... and the board to the welded angle bars( daaamn so heavy!! to lift it up and screw it to my wall ) so here how it looks:

when i punch it...it really differs a lot from the old one... it does bounce back for like 4-6 times..depends on how you punch it... but then i see a lot of videos on the net and damn mine was still differs from it...mine responses verry slow... like i have to wait after the 2nd and 3rd bounce back before i punch it again... it does not like on the others that u see them keep punchin and punchin and never stops... mine was not like that

and im 100% sure that the platform and board was nothing to do with it...because it does not vibrate or move at all... i screwed it on the wall a lot ..and the wood was also screwed to the angle bars like 6-8 times...

GUYS!!! PLS help me!!!! i dont reallly this time what to do!! i really want to learn! pls... "FAN of manny pacquiao!! ... just like you guys..and even mayweather

    pls help me! thanks!!!! =)

Welcome to the forums ote888, you've came to the right place for advice. I'll try and help but I'm sure someone else will come along and confirm my concerns with your equipment.

The platform looks great. You should consider putting a sandbag on top of the platform, even though you say there's no vibration.

Now, I have never hit a TKO bag before, my guess is that the bag is your problem. It's hard to tell what size that bag is, it looks pretty big to me, this means slower rebound. Now, that isn't a bad thing for a beginner, it's best to start out on a larger, slower bag. On the other hand, the bag may not be a good bag overall.

Hopefully someone has hit a TKO bag and can tell you a little more.

    Good luck.

wow! quick response sir! =) verrry much appreciated! =) well as a beginner ..you might also right that the bag might be pretty big right?? and i have no much idea...at first on what to buy..didnt realize that there were different size and weights?? but are there any bag that also differs from its structure?? like i mean? that are all bags made from leathers??.... will it affect too?....

well i didnt also know that the bigger the bag the slower the rebound is...

cause sometimes i use to see some people here that they also use big bags??? but then has a great rebounds??? does that mean that...they are already professionals in hitting bags? that they can make the rebounds quick??

sir can you suggest? different speedbags? which often people use?? the sizes and it's weights?? so i might buying new ones..but of course i will also consider practicing in this speedbag.. as you told me that larger bags are good for beginners...sir you might also share some tips and techniques on how will i use this. since im a beginner and wants to use this bag properly...

sir very much thanks to your reply..greatly appreciate it!..hoping for more replies from you and to some other people here in this great forum..... that also might be a big help! thanks!!!

Your very welcome, you'll find we're all more than happy to help you.

Okay, I take it the TKO bag isn't leather? If it's a vinyl bag, they are normally slower.

If I were you, I would be looking at Everlast bags. I have no idea what is available to you in your country. The Everlast 5x8 (small) is a good bag to start with depending on your ability, other than that, go for the next size up 6x9. The faster pro bag is the Everlast 4x6 (extra small) a very fast bag and my favourite out of all my bags. What you have to remember with Everlast bags is that the size they give isn't quite right for example a 5x8 is actually closer to 6x9, a 4x6 is more like a 5x8 and so on.

What I would suggest right now, is that you find a shop that sells speed bags in your country, then post a link here so we can have a look at what your choices are.

Hang about here and you'll pick lot's of tips up. You can also subscribe to SpeedBagSkunks video's here

If you really keen then purchase The Speed Bag Bible by Alan Kahn. It's a book and DVD, a perfect tool for all baggers whether your just starting out, or a pro.

i really can't say whether it's a vinyl or a leather..i don't even know how to differ it (mostly they look really the same?).... but then because of it's cheapness when i bought it ..i doubt that probably it's a vinyl...

well i already found one but pretty far it's like ... 110miles from my place... that's where i bought my swivel since i can't found any in the malls or sporting goods near my place..

well they might have everlast bags there... i didnt have the chance to ask them because i already have one in my home...which i really didnt know that, that one wont work

well sir..how bout the weight? how will i choose another bag regarding their weights?? that will response very well???

thank you sir again..greatly appreciated !!

Large size bags rebound more slowly, but a well made large bag rebounds just fine, it has no problem rebounding.

And although large bags are good for beginners, they can be enjoyed by anybody. The larger sized bags will not be as fast as the smallest bags, but large bags can be made to move very quickly and doing so is rewarding.

For what it's worth, I can get 10 rebounds from my jumbo Everlast 4205, a 13" x 10" monster. Size doesn't matter, in a manner of speaking...

Don't you have an on-line shop?

About the weight, Some bags are lighter than others, stick with the bag size and you'll have nothing else to worry about. What I'm saying is, when we buy bags, we look at the size not the weight. The Everlast bags seem pretty good when it comes to weight. I have some light bags and they are very difficult to control. But, I don't want to confuse you.

Paranday is spot on! Larger bags can be as fast as some of the smaller ones, depending on the quality.

How long have you been speed bagging?

well im newbie in using speedbags..that's i why i ask a lot of questions( hope you guys wont be frustrated or annoyed with my simple questions)

well because im in the Philippines...although it's possible to buy to an online shop..it would take several weeks before it arrives here ..so i would choose running on that 110 miles...

so it might probably the quality of the bag..why the hell it wont move fast.... *sigh i might consider buying a new ones....

@paranday..: it's like wow!!!.... i hope i can also have that one soon... i envy you sir! hahaha!

Wow! 110 miles is a long way to go for a speed bag.

Hey no problem, you just go ahead and ask anything.

Have you checked you have the right amount of air in that bag? Check this out for the correct amount of air.
