    Swivel and punching bag

    Hello All

I'm pretty new to this, and have just purchased a 100 lb heavy bag. I hung it on a swivel figuring I could also use this to switch out to a speed bag (I don't have much space). I've seen on some products it does say either or, but I am just not that sure. I really don't want the heavy bag to come falling down.

Thanks for the info in advance!

speed bag swivels wernt designed to hold that much weight...im assuming u have a heavy bag swivel which wont work for a speed bag.

Here is what I purchased at the store:

      swivel

I hung the 100lb heavy bag from it. It seems fine, however, I'm not sure once I really start punching and kicking it.

Hi, and welcome to the forum. I'm not into heavy bagging, so take my comments with a grain of salt.

To me, that swivel is meant for a speed bag. To what do you have the swivel mounted? Is it mounted on a platform of some sort? And if so, how is the platform mounted to the ceiling? ( I assume it's mounted to a ceiling and not a wall since you're hitting a heavy bag.)

Here's a link to a heavybag chain and swivel. This is what you might need for the heavy bag instead of the chain link swivel.

That swival is not intended to accomadate that much weight and force. The bearing will fail and lock up, not ot mention that the threads will fail on the mounting flange

agreed i dont think its a good idea just in case the bag wer to fall...100lbs cud do some damage to someone if it catches them in the right spot

              Thanks for everyone's help!

I did get an email back from Everlast and they said do NOT use that speed bag swivel for a heavy bag!

What I decided to do is use an eye hook screwed directly into the beam, and instead of a heavy bag swivel, I'll buy a spring which I think is best to reduce noise and stress on the beam.

I may hold onto the speed bag swivel for when I actually get a speed bag. Right now it is all MMA stuff I am doing.
