    New speed bag setup

    Hey everyone

I just found a heavy bag/speed bag rig the other day (almost brand new, someone was throwing it out!) and am looking to set it up.

I'm completely new to this so go easy on me, heh. I have an old heavy bag I can set up, so that's done. I don't have a speed bag though, and have no idea what to look for when buying one. I also don't know where to find one - I live in Toronto, Ont. if anyone knows of any stores in my area...

Anyways, what brand/size should I look for, and is there anything else I should know?

    Thanks in advance.

You'll love getting into the boxing workout.

Here's a great site for all kinds of bags:

TITLE Boxing has the best training equipment from Nike, Adidas, Under Armour, Sugar Ray Leonard. Sign Up to Save 20%!

My suggestion would be to start with a medium size bag but I'll let the real experts answer.

    Have fun.

10x7 is an excellent size for a beginner. Maybe a 9x6, but definitely no smaller than that.

Title Boxing's house brands are extremely well made, affordable, and work well: http://store.titleboxing.com/titlespeedbags1.html

The "Medium" size is probably the best for a beginner. The Everlast and Rival bags sold by Title are also very good.

I've not yet seen any bricks and mortar retailer carry speed bags as nice as the ones that can be bought over the internet.

Hey Chuckts welcome to the forum!! That's a lucky find!! is it a wall mounted speed bag platform or complete speedbag /heavy bag stand?

                Thanks for the welcomes, folks.

It's a complete stand, but unfortunately it's really not that stable. I've tried stabilizing it with every single weight I have, but still the speed bag side of it wobbles a little too much, so I might have to do some work on it to support it more. Unfortunately no camera, so no pics.

I've been using it a lot though and have built up a nice 1-2-3 rhythm. Completely messed my knuckles up the first few times after hitting the board heh, but since then it's been fun. Woke up this morning, beat it up for a few minutes and the damn swivel broke. It was a pretty cheap ball and hook swivel that came with it, so I'm not too surprised.

Anyways looking for a new one now but I really have no idea what to get. Any suggestions?

oh by the way this was the bag I picked up: http://www.everlast.com/everlast-vinyl-sp-bag.html

I got a little lazy and bought it from the local walmart, didn't want to order online and I couldn't find a good sports store near me.
