Oh I see what your saying now. I can get the same speed with a ball hook doing these modifications. This really sounds like what I need to do. This would allow me to use less power in my punch and allow my to focus on technique. Where can you get a 3/4 ball w/ hole? Oh also whats punch drumming and bumping? Thanks Again

Custom Built Speed Bag Swivel
Punch drumming is hitting the speed bag to the Rhythm of Music. Check out the hitting to music section on the forum home page. http://www.speedbagforum.com/forums/index.php
Or, go staight to the hitting to music section by clicking on this link http://www.speedbagforum.com/forums/...splay.php?f=13
Bumping is contacting the speed bag two times or more with the same fist or elbow after only one rebound.
I actually used a brass ball from a towel hook purchased from home depot. They came 12 in a pack so I have some extra's. I drilled the hole through using a vise and protecting the ball from being scored form the vise.
I can custom build you one if you like. Send me a PM is you want me to do that for you.
Also go to my You tube site and you can see all swivels I've used in my Videos. This is an unedited version of the last Punch-drumming video I posted using my custom swivel.
I have an edited version posted under hitting to music on the forum but the aspect ratio is in correct and I can't seem to figure out why so the above video is raw footage of that take. The swivel is very clear in it. I do hit the bag off of the eye hook once during this video and get it back on quickly with out much effort. So you can see what I was explaining above. This is not a huge issue. If the opening is a bit smaller on the eye hook it probably wouldn't happen. I'm always making notes to improve swivel performance, and that is my latest improvement idea. A simple adjustment.
Good luck with whatever you decide. If you find a good brass ball provider please pass the info along. As a matter of fact I may post that question on the forum for feedback.Novaspeedbagger

I would like to say that different Swivels are good for different types or styles of Bagging.
I'm totally hooked on Speed Bagging, so, I hit the speed bag in several different modes such as:
1. Traditional boxing style
2. 3 minute rounds of the same fist skills
3. 3 minute rounds of the same Elbow skills
4. Punch Drumming (different song speeds call for different set ups)
5. bumping
For Speed Bag Bible style Punching using Medium and Large Bags, the Powermill is by far My first choice and the S-hook is convenient for quick bag changes.
For Traditional Boxing style bagging (looking for maximum rebounding speed. I prefer a chain link, U-bolt or....... a Modified ball hook that I posted below. The video I reposted below, shows an everlast chain link swivel, that I modified myself.
I removed the guts of the chain link and replaced it with a 3/4" brass ball with a 1/4" eye hook (made by Jump cannon for the Powermill) mounted in through the ball (unthreaded) and attached with a nut on top of the ball. Then, secured with Locktite (Red tube) from the nut threads through the length of the eye-hook passing through the brass ball.
I didn't drill out the original hole in the housing at all. The reason I beleive this little ball hook is so fast, is due to the small diameter ball.
I've also experimented with the same set up but using a 3/16" eye-hook. For xs and small speed bags I prefer this lighter hardware because the weight of the eye-hook s-hook connection seems to be more conducive to smaller/lighter bags.
In this video the cleto bag is moving at a good pace, however, a 7x4 Ringside is lighter and faster than the cleto. In the Ringside video, I am not pushing the pace but keeping the Rhythm of the song, but the bag still has plenty of speed.
Check it out and see what you think of the speed of this ball hook swivel. There is no S-hook involved in this set up so that also allows for various arc lengths according to the preference of the bagger. A zip tie is used in this video to attach the speed bag to the eye-hook.
When punch drumming, changing the arc length of the zip tie is similar to tuning an instrument. If the bag needs a bit more speed you can shorten the zip tie. You can lengthen the zip tie if that is more appropriate for the speed of the song as in the "To legit to
I checked out your youtube page. Great vid of you hitting to S.U.N. A bit offtopic....is S.U.N. an acronym for something? Sounds like some good music and I wanted to check them out but I couldn't find a band with that name (I found The Sun and Sun but their music genres seem to be different). Thx.

Novaspeedbagger thanks for all the info and advice. My next trip to home depot I will look for the towel hook you speak of as well as browse around to see if theres anything similiar. I also need to order a chainlink swivel to gut out. I will report back with results once complete or during the process if any questions. Thanks Again-Anthony

Everlast and Title Swivel Modifications

If the housing from my swivel is deep enough, I'm going to try your mod this weekend. I have a feeling that the nut resting inside the housing of my swivel is actually permanently afixed. I didn't give it 100% (nor did I use two wrenches) but it didn't budge after I tried to loosen it.

My everlast is not deep enough, so I used a drill with a grinding stone and took a bit of wood off the board under my swivel so it has sufficient clearance for the nut to move freely under the housing.
Title E-Z Pro Swivel Modification:
I just finished modifying a Title swivel ( http://store.titleboxing.com/titlebo...ro-swivel.html ), and it has ample clearance without grinding the board. I used a 3/4" brass ball and 3/16" eye-hook. I also decreased the diameter of the eye by cutting it with a grinder and bending it closed again.
I really like the way this one is performing.

I checked my homedepot this evening but could not find those. No luck in the kitchen/bathroom accessory department or cabinet hardware.
I do see these online. They are already tapped. If an eyebolt comes in that gauge then perhaps that might work out and I wonder if that would fit in an Everlast housing unit since you wouldn't need to add a nut to keep the bolt in place.
Imagine it would be a pain in the tail but if I find the ones that you are talking about it might be worth trying to self-tap them. Been wanting to try something like that anyway.

Some Pics from my profile page
They don't unscrew but you can pull them off fairly easy. Check out the pictures in this photo album on my profile page. http://www.speedbagforum.com/forums/...php?albumid=52
I realize it is rough work and not fine Machinist precision but, it really works well. And I also, cut the 3/16" eye-bolt and reduce the diameter of the eye by bending it closed with a Pliers. That is how I did the last modification on the Title E-Z Pro swivel which has ample clearance for the nut. That is if the correct length eye-bolt is used.Novaspeedbagger
