Yes, just recently i got into retro fitting what i call the first generation big ball-hook swivels with my assemblies, The first generation swivels would wear out at the eyebolt shank and eventually break from long usage, Then people would install the wrong ball-hooks from the cheaper stamped steel everlast swivels, edit BTW i'm in USA

Brilliant insight on faults of chain link and U- bolt swivels. Thanks!Originally posted by ventanakaz
I've never seen the original rope swivels that came with these platforms, I've only seen them from where i posted the pictures from the catalog above, Sorry to say but you will probably never find them because there were probably updated with more modern swivels, like the Ball-Hook swivels, other swivels i seen on them were Chainlink and U-bolt, But the all metal ball-hook is a more pure swivel to where you can hit from all sides and angles of the bag without having the limitations of the chainlink or the u-bolt swivel, Plus what other people don't realize and from years of my experience of hitting on the chainlink & u-bolt (Side Bar/i hit on the chainlink for alot of years and the u-bolt for a short time before i just threw the u-bolt in the garage can) the chainlink would kink up when i would hit with a true boxing style that included boxing the bag with combinations (not circle hammer fist) So whenever i threw a straight punch then to a hook punch, the chainlink couldn't handle that fast extreme change of angles so it was frustrating, and that is because of the Mechanical design of the swivel, Also the bag only hit on two panels of the bag, the front and back, Wearing out the bag prematurely, The other panels of the bag never hit the drum, With the metal ball-hook you can hit from all sides and angles of the bag with no problem plus all the bags panels would hit the drum, Making the bag last longer.

Very cool, thanks for all this info! I'd like to set it up as authentically as possible. A big bag sounds like it would be fun.Originally posted by ventanakaz
BTW those platforms back in the day had 3 foot drums and those guys would hit on big bags like the one i'm selling in these pictures, it's a shame that people don't realize the benefits of hitting on big bags, There was a particular person on YouTube saying that you can't do bible bagging on big bags, That guy doesn't know what he was talking about, Where do you think bible bagging came from, it came from a time period where they had Fancy baggers during the vaudeville days.

Swivel from the 1916 Narragansett catalog. The two pictures below are a similar swivel if not the same rope swivel on a Medart Platform, i can't remember where i found the picture of the guy hitting on the Medart platform but i think he was a Physician.

I have a picture of the original swivel from the 1916 Narragansett catalog, it's obvious that you can't find these because people probably took these off to put other swivels on that they were using at the time, that's to bad that the original swivel was lost in time.Originally posted by Dutchman View PostThey had their own line of swivels. Originally similar to the Nichols rope swivel, and later a ball and hook style. You will find just about any make of swivel on the surviving platforms

Hey! "Dutchman" sorry to put you on the spot but my first thought was (just ask the Dutchman) so, what swivel came with the original "Narragansett platform"

Would this be an appropriate swivel for a Narragansett platform? If so, I might be interested in buying one. They look great
