Question About Wall Mounted Speed Bag Platforms

Hi guys, I've got some questions regarding wall-mounted speed bag platforms. I'm aware that these will provide better vibration absorption and rebound response. How much louder is the sound observed through the house walls? And is there any significant wear or tear to the mounted studs or wall over time?

My current setup is based off of Tim's (speedbaglabs) free standing platforms with the 4x4 vertical beams joined by the horizontal 2x4s. Major benefit is that none of the vibration and noise is transferred into the house walls. That being said, this current setup does not
mitigate vibration as well as the wall-mounted version.

Good question. As far as sound transmission, that has a lot of do with when the house was built, where it is, and what kind of materials. From my experience older houses with lath and plaster walls (which tend to be much thicker than ones using drywall) with little if any insulation tend to act like giant transducers. A light tapping on walls or doors can be heard through out the house. One of the reasons why back in the day striking bags were in the basement or garage which are largely concrete block or poured concrete walls. I have seen installations where the platform is mounted on the over head floor joists, which is certainly stable , but doesn't address the sound issue. It's like hammering on the joists. Modern construction techniques are geared more towards thermal efficiency than addressing sound. Other than having a house designed and built to accommodate this issue, the choices are limited. While I'm using an early Ringside stand alone platform stand, I've seen stand alone platforms using the Speed Rail system of metal pipe structures that are quite stable, and not transferring sound or vibration to the structure. There is still the sound of the bag hitting the drum.

My walls are made of drywall, so it probably would not perform well in terms of sound absorption and vibration.

Dutchman, can I ask if you have any references for pictures/speedbaggers using the Speed Rail system please?

I did, but they are on hard drives from computers that have died. I need to get a hard drive rack to accommodate them. I have been too busy with person things to tackle this project.

Did a google search this morning and found this page. While it does not feature a dedicated speed bag frame, they show how this system can be used to potentially build one https://www.simplifiedbuilding.com/p...ndustrial-pipe
