    life expectancy of plastic swivel

I was just wondering if there is anyone who had a plastic swivel wear out from usage. About how many hours of punishment can this swivel take before it has to be replaced? I am currently using a plastic swivel and I notice that friction from usage is causing the plastic to rub off in the form of "white powder."

Is it a new plastic B/H swivel or an old one? I'm guessing like it might fairly new and if so it may just be the new outer coating.

Have you altered it to the Skunk style plastic ball in metal housing type swivel? I haven't done this myself yet, but I intend to, though you'd have to think if the plastic ball was going to get any serious wear it would happen more prominantly using it in this manner. Anyhow, I don't think it's something that gonna happen real quick.

I'd think you should easy get at least 2 years + out of one. To be frank, I've only been bagg'n for around 1 year now myself, so I'm only going off my thoughts.

I have tried the plastic ball inside several different metal housing by everlast, and on every single one the ball came up too high. When the metal housing attaches to the board, the ball has to have room between itself and the board to move around. I have NOT found that to be the case on any metal housing swivel. I have every kind of metal swivel made, and have tried this on every single housing. The everlast metal ball (* #3 in these pictures) is not a round ball. It fits snuggly inside the housings, but the plastic ball comes up over the top and hits the wood when you try to attach it. At least it did when I tried it on numerous metal housings, including ringside and everlast models.

I would have to get some kind of space to put betweet the metal housing and board to make enough room for the plastic ball to turn.

I would suggest simply super gluing the metal hook shank into the plastic ball, and keep it inside the plastic housing. What I have noticed is the plastic housing showing some wear from the metal shank hitting the plastic lip on every punch. The same happens to a metal lip of a metal housing. I have one metal housing so beat down that I had to take it down or the ball might fall out on a really hard punch. All swivel housing wear down over time.

Ya! I pointed that out to Skunk and he got back to me by saying, you must guage out a section of drum behind where the swivel sits.

I'm just waiting on delivery of a new plastic B/H swivel (I glued my original one home with Loctite in its plastic housing, it's in there so tight I don't want to break it) before I can complete this rig. But I got about an 1.25"-
1.5" speed boar to remove about 0.75" of the drum in this area. Hope it's enough.

          .

Why not just put a spacer between the swivel housing and the board rather than dig a hole in the middle of the board? About 1/8th of an inch would do it. put a few 1/8th inch plugs by each swivel screw or bolt going up through the board. this should give the ball just enough room to move freely.

Yes, that also would be a very good option too.

Like to make a slight correction on previous post, Bore not boar.

But that concept takes me on a whole new tangent.

By lengthening the mount of the swivel are you not adding to the distance the bag has to travel? I 1st noticed this in those old school vid's off Vaudeville, their collosal speed bags were strung to a 6-8" rod/spike/pin which gave those massive things more room to travel.

I have been considering getting a few metal sleaves/collar attatchment, of different lengths made up to screw between the base and the swivel. I don't believe this will change the bag speed, but it will effect the timing, giving the bagger that bigger window to complete those amazing side elbow fist, elbow fist elbow fist...etc

What if any advantages are gained by using a plastic ball in a metal swivel other than the fact it makes a weird noise when you spin it? That's the only thing I can recall hearing about it but I would like to know what the advantages are.

                Hey Guy's.

I found it to be a happy medium between the two types of swivels, both for speed and noise.
