Sometimes there is a pattern in my mind that I’d like to learn and execute to a song, cause I think it’s a natural fit to the beat. It’s been like that with the double-bump chainsaw (O-I 4way) to the Nick Neblo track, and it’s been the same here. In the chorus I was thinking of a 5-1 combo, 5 hits from the front, 1 from the back… and why not try that with a tripple-bump-elbow included. This could be executed in that pattern:

    Tripple-bump-OTES‘‘RSP‘‘FCP’Double-bump-DDES‘FSP‘‘RSP‘‘[repeat]

It took me a while to get that down. I usually try things first without music. I have the beat in my head and try slowly the moves, hearing and thinking if they could fit. Then I continue to the song at a lower pace, at about 70-80% of the original tempo before I raise to 100% in steps.

The first version of this video was a 30 second-clip for my Instagram. The copyright restrictions here only allow this length for most songs. The good thing about this: it’s way easier to work on a version that fits to the beat and includes different combinations.

I recorded this first version about one week ago and worked on a version to the whole song after that. At the beginning I thought that I would never get that down over the whole time, but I’m pretty happy with the product you see here.

    2nd try, hope it works:

Punch-Drumming to Testify by Rage Against the Machine

As I said, the next one will be heavier!

This is a special song to me: The first concert of an international alternative rock/metal band I’ve ever been was at the Battle of LA Tour by Rage Against the Machine: Feb 4th 2000 in D
