YMCA bag stank

Been doing a lot of heavy punching on my Everlast 4205 YMCA bag today.



The bag is vintage 80s NOS and primo, except for the smell I can't yet get rid of. Smells a bit like being at the Y.

Any idea of how to deodorize a vintage bag? I've treated the entire outside with Lysol wipes and then a good amount of mink oil. New bladder and laces, of course.

I have used a few of these ideas. Not on a speed bag per say, but on leather. leather is leather right? Good Luck

For musty odor, it says vinegar or sunshine. Sunshine may work, I'll try. But vinegar, lol. What gets out vinegar smell?

Vinegar is not a residual. It will dissipate out on it's own. (The vodka one was a hoot)

Acetic acid and alcohol are not good for leather. Isn't that obvious? Maybe I should try bleach or borax next?

My shoe repair guy ( been in the business 40 years) sold me this product 2 days ago. He said it was an excellent leather cleaner and would work well on speed bags. He was right. I cleaned years of skank ( by the look of my cleaning rag) off some decade old bags I have so far collected.

Another product he sold me:

Then a very thin app of mink oil paste to keep out moisture

yeah I hear ya. I would hate to see the forensics report of human sweat skank on your YMCA bag LOL. I have some bags that are 40 + years old. Bound to be dirt and grime build up. Which I am happy to say has been removed
. Why would you not want to clean skank too?

For the record, the smell from my YMCA Leatherneck Everlast bag which I am trying to remove is something like mold plus Lysol. It doesn't smell that bad, but it is not going away.
