How about Tonto? Just found out Johnny Depp is Guest on show that I'm taping.

went to show tonight (Wed) as a guest and got to see Hugh Jackman interview, and the promo for "stupid human tricks". (Gulp).

OK we tape tomorrow about 4pm est. Got five acts taping, three make the show. let's hope the speed bag is one of them. this is when you pray the equipment is set up correctly and the bag don't bust and fourty years of being under that board just "kicks in". They want me to hit to "the rhythm is gonna get you" which is the YT video that they saw for the invitation.

famous last words. "...don't forget to breath".

I will not know if it makes the show until the show airs. There are no promises to any of the 'stand up' acts (= regular humans that are invited to appear. Their producers and time have final say).

This post that turned up today may be a good omen,,,

The speed bag is to Alan Kahn what a secretive mix of 11 herbs and spices was to Colonel Sanders, and his Youtube hits need to start reflecting how truly innovative this man is. If a 17 second clip of a sneezing baby Panda can attain over 150 million views, then this clip of Alan punch-drumming the Mortal Kombat theme should easily be able to reach into the hundreds of billions.

This may be the break the speed bag community was waiting for!

          Give 'em hell, AK.

Will be out of Internet range in two days, so someone post up if Alan made it (I'm sure he will), and any links to the video.

          Thanks.

If I get crazy my right arm may actually fly off my body into the crowd. that will be a memorable moment, leading to yet another operation.

Let's hope not. Getting ready to go to the show for rehearsals.

just hoping the equipment is ready and steady.

You've got to be kidding!!! A show like that can't secure the rights to a song that THEY asked Alan to hit to? WTF?

I hope they at least pay for his flight.

Dang! What the heck?! Fire your agent, Alan!

Well, I hope you're enjoying your trip to NYC at least. And didn't you rub elbows with Hugh Jackman. ;-)

Well, it's on to the Tonight Show next, right?

they treated me right. can't complain. they paid for flights, hotel and would have paid if I was used on the air (union issue).

Deal on music is complicated. they cannot use the "original track" of song, but we used it in rehearsal. they started out with sound too low and I couldn't hear it. turned it up about half way through so last half was pretty good on beat, lots of elbows etc. good ending. Not my best take, but have not hit a bag in a several months. Dee's swivel was awesome.

the situation is, the Paul Schaeffer and CBS orchestra has rights to do covers of any song, and they wanted to do live rehearsals with Paul and band later in day. but on thursday they tape thursday and friday show, so studio is really tied up with skits and other stuff for two nights worth of shows. I got to watch that, a few comedy bits took 5-7 takes, other band rehearsals etc. and we never got to rehearse the song. They would not do a "live" performance on the show with Dave without at least one or more live rehearsals to get timing down. they wanted to use about middle third of song, and a rehearsal would be needed for them and me to know what we were doing. Rehearsal didn't happen so I got scratched. That is the truth as I know it.

It is easy to say "..hey he can hit to anything, just give him a beat" but live network TV does not work that way. Nothing with unknown talent or non-union entertainment is just ad libbed. The Dave Letterman show is not a reality show, it is pretty much rehearsed and scripted to the minute. they were very friendly, decent and apologetic. Director of show and talent agent apologized and said this would definitely be high on a re-call list, but it could not go without a few rehearsals so band and production crew knew exactly what was going on. Never saw Dave, but Biff Henderson was awesome. got to see Johnny Depp at a distance, but no one gets near him.

Anyway, fun time. Disappointed to get bumped but life goes on. Just another chapter in my next book "almost famous". Met some great folks and saw a few broadway shows, so all in all a fun trip.
