Welcome to the forum and nice video. Punching appears pretty solid, but it's really hard to tell exactly without hearing the bag contacts. Cool video effects.

I've Done a bit of Video shooting and editing myself. I did it a lot years ago. In the pre-digital days I shot a lof of video with the prosumer level Panasonic S-VHS AG 456u. It had a variable speed shutter to allow for very clear Slomo scenes. For speed bag you could shoot in 1/250 or 1/500 and get really clear fist-bag or bag-board reactions. Most of the slow motion segments used in the Speed Bag Bible DVD's were shot in 1/250. I shot those segments specifically for slo mo and went through every technique and combination from three different angles. Then I got the bright idea to shoot them from underneath also at different zoom lengths. Counting the dedicated slo motion high speed shutter tapes with the normal speed 1/60 takes, and I ended up with over 100 S-VHS tapes full of speed bag video, and over 50 pages of shot logs.

Then I dubbed all S-VHS master tapes to vhs for watching and shot selection (didn't want to risk running my master video's in the machines). Needless to say I ended up with Cases full of speed bag video tape, for I shot each scene on Ringside and Everlast bags. I made all edited masters on S-VHS which I sent to the video production company for dubs or now - glass mastered DVD's.

during those days I also did a bit of video moonlighting shooting local golf tournaments and making picture/music video's, putting peoples pictures on tape with a music soundtrack. I learned to love editing.

So I understand your love of indie video production. Gotta say it's frustrating to see $10,000.00 worth of high end editing equipment replaced with a $149.00 software program.

Hope to see you in Jersey!
I knew it when I was making the video...I said to myself..."Self, Alan will want to hear the bag." (note to self....listen to self next time!)

You have to love technology, I'm with you. I'll be turning 50 this year and also come from the razor blade editing days (both audio & video). I have all kinds of gear that you don't need any more...but hey, it still looks good sitting in storage.

I'll PM you as I would like an autographed copy of your book.... then I'll practice and post some video for real review and comments. My head still spins when I watch some of the videos on here, SO much talent and variety. What a great group of people & thanks for the welcome.

Just a month in and you're already going strong, I think it will be great to see you on the swivel and on some new angles you seem to have the front and back down good enough to expand your territory some as you improve your skill level
Thanks Inkspill.... I appreciate it. I started with the thought of more of a workout, but the bug bites...you see some of these cool combinations (everybody makes it look so easy)...and you just HAVE to try some of this stuff. I'll be getting the bible and try to learn the best I can, so look for more video and requests for critiques/comments in the near future.

How do you get to Speed Bag Hall? ... practice, practice, practice!

Zaza! I thought you were a beginner?? You're hitting that thing like a champ. That was sweet.

Other than practice, practice and practice, was there anything that you referred to in order to get you to that stage?

Absolutely fantastic video. Goosebumps. Great stuff.

Thanks Metaldad! I just order the bible so I can try to figure some of this stuff out. In your videos the bag is moving so fast it's just a blurrrrrr.....
By the way, does the bible come with a decoder ring so I know what everyone's talking about with DFCP,, DEFP,, etc.? LOL!!

All I've done is read just about every post on this forum and watched all the videos I could find here....then spent hours on Alan's site to see the proper way to get started: http://www.speedbagcentral.com/

It was actually this video of Alan's on YouTube that made me want get a platform built and give it a try: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xP7qWhkUwHc

I was looking for something to add to my regular workout that was fun and focused on the upper body.

No worries there brother! All shall be revealed in the pages of the bible! If you're this good now, I shudder at the thought of where you'll be after spending some time with the bible!

              No slider action?

              Hi Zaza!

I just put two and two together cause I knew your screen name rang a bell! I created an ingus diy slider with your instructions (as seen here http://vimeo.com/9595377). One month in you are way better than me! That is why I haven't posted a video yet. I'm on my second month and I was planning to put a video together of my progress.

I added a lot of photos on the amazon page (http://amzn.com/B001B88VXI) for the Everlast speedbag platform since weren't that many photos of the product. I was going to use parts of my video for a video review. I recently found this forum and just signed up today.

I decided to sign up because I was interested in a new swivel (powermill) since the everlast U swivel doesn't swing around well when doing side combos.

              It's definitely a small world!

Too funny... and yes, this world is getting smaller every day!
Glad you built a ZazaSlider (http://www.zazaslider.com)... now just get a pair of my feet and you'll be set. It's really hard to operate a camera & slider when you're speed baggin', I haven't figured that one out yet.

Welcome to the forum, lots of great people here, super information...and this is where you'll find the Powermill Evil Swivel. I have one and it rocks. Get one.

I'm looking forward to your first baggin' video... don't hold back, just do it.
                Cheers!

Thanks Speedbag4life.....I have the bible coming, I just hope I can get my elbows up high enough to hit the bag! I'm going to need to build a platform to stand on to get to the right height for 'bible style' hitting.

My platform is too high for bible style as well. I'm actually glad it ended up that way. Really, you get both choices now. Boxing style or Bible style with a pallet or other such rig. I have a pallet with bricks on it that I use the majority of the time. In addition, the bag is high enough that it's out of the way when not in use.

Now that's a thought. I never really thought that hitting from all around the bag with fists and elbows was "a style" unto itself. I was taught by a former Marine Corps champion boxer, and he just called it hitting the speed bag. But for those that wonder about the possible differences in "speed bag styles" I will offer an educated guess.

                            Speed Bag "Bible" Style:

Stance: Feet Parallel, shoulders square facing bag. Elbows held up and out from body, making upper arm close to parallel to floor to allow staighter movement of fists through the bag. Both fists usually remain the same distance from the bag during the activity. When punching, normally maintains this position. The ribs are normall open and unprotected for the speed bag doesn't punch back.

Bag Position: Optimal is belly of the bag at your mouth. This allows the fists to pass through the bag and move to a different position easier.

Contact Surfaces: Using both fists and elbows to hit the bag.

Bag Contact: hitting the bag from "all around", meaning four general areas.

Rhythm, or Bag Beat: Understanding and using the Rules of Rhythym when hitting from all around the bag. The number of rebound required between techniques are constantly changing from 1,2 or 3, depending on the direction of the next strike.

Purpose: Obvious physical exercise benefits and the above allows for extensive creative expression of rhythm, sound and customization of personal workout.

Person: Used by persons of all shapes, sizes, colors, professions. Very popular among drummers, secretaries, teachers and laundromat workers. Also used by several computer specialists, Truck Drivers, Indie Film producers, PH.D mathmaticians, house wives, Neurosurgeons and Physicians of all types, TV and radio personalities, Welders, carpenters, painters, Barbers, American Indian Pow Wow Dancers, Martial Artists, Musicians, video store sales personnel, rodeo clowns, circus clowns and popsicle truck drivers to name a few. I've also known a few bible style lawyers too hit the bag.

                            Boxer Style:

Stance: Feet can be Parallel with shoulders square facing bag or assuming their basic boxing stance to emphasize ring techniques and movement. In a boxer stance the distance of each fist to the bag is different. Key to boxing position is maintaining lower elbows to emphasize protection of ribs in the ring. When punching they may maintain a steady standing position or move around the bag to emphasize footwork.

Bag Position: Usually like a higher bag position, with the belly above eye level or at the forehead. This allows boxer to maintain a high hands position and "keep their arms up".

Contact Surfaces: Emphasizes fist contacts only for elbows are not allowed in boxing.

Bag Contact: hitting the bag from the front with the fists, although sometimes the sides are used if a hook punch is thrown.

Rhythm, or Bag Beat: Typically they stay in the Triplet, or 3-count rhythm, normally used when punching from the same side (front) repetitively. This may change when using a Hook Punch, entering from the side of the bag.

Purpose: Obvious physical exercise benefits and the above allows for extensive training of punching skills, stance and movements required in the boxing ring.

Person: Basically, Boxers and those that train them. Also by people who have only seen boxers use a speed bag and just assume that is "the way it is supposed to be used". One of the greatest moments in sports is the look on these people's face the first time they see a "Bible Styler" cut loose.

( note to self: The Speed Bag does not define how it is to be used. The user defines how they will use the speed bag.)

I am sure there a some other differences, but these are the main ones that I can think of. Neither way is wrong or right, for they both allow you to enjoy the rhythmic movements and sound of the bag. But as for me an my house, we shall follow the * Bible. (* OK, I'll admit a personal bias on that one... , but I've known the author for a long time.)
