    J.C. Higgins swivel

Just picked up this fine example of the J.C. Higgins swivel. It really is NOS (new old stock)... Never used, in original box (from Sears).

Looks identical to the swivels that Voit was making in the 1960's.

      Any pictures of the Voit?

...and do you know when they stopped calling them "Striking Bag Swivels"...and went to the term "Speed Bag"?

The term 'speed bag' itself was in use at least as early as 1936,

Everlast, called them striking bags up until the company was sold, same with TufWear, the former in the 1990's for sure.

Nice clean looking swivel and with the original box, that's even better.

It looks identical to my Whitely No Jump swivel. I wonder if they were made by the same company and just put in different boxes? The totally round ball and the aluminum base are exactly the same.

You are probably right, Fedora. Sears had a great deal of their merchandise made by other well known companies (most Kenmore appliances were made by Maytag, for instance).
